The conference center of UPT hosted the conference “Towards a Fully Monolithic and Fully Computational Camera: A multi Modal Sensing Camera” supported by Dr. Sergio Goma, senior director of Qualcomm Technologies in the USA.  This was followed by a panel discussion where participants discussed topics related to ASIC design, CPU/GPU, TSMC, technology trends and priorities of US firms.

The organizers of this scientific event were the Department of Computers and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Timișoara Branch of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences and IEEE SSIT Chapter Romania.Sergio Goma is a graduate of UPT (1994) where he obtained his doctorate in computer engineering in 1998. Since 2008 he has been leading the research and development and standardization group for imaging of Qualcomm Technologies in the USA. An important place in his impressive CV is allocated to activities at ATI (image processing on Imageon chips) and AMD. His expertise in the fields of programmable hardware architectures dedicated to imaging, computational photography and integrated image sensors (quality and processing) was also recognized by the award received from the Society for Imaging and Technology Services.

The conference was structured on the following main topics: Design Objectives/ Optical Stack/ Digital Stack/ Programmable Compute Element with ML option/ Application Example: A Solution for Multi-Path Interference for Depth Imaging iToF/ Data-Driven Science (ML) vs Science-Driven Data Processing.
